Muonio
Muonio is located on the banks of the Muonio River, right on the border between Finland and Sweden, in the heart of Lapland’s enchanting wilderness. The area lies within the embrace of the Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park – where the world’s cleanest air meets breathtaking fell landscapes and crystal-clear waters.

River Valley
Muonio sits in the heart of the river valley. A number of lakes and rivers are within walking distance of the town center. The fells of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park (15 min by car) rise gently in the near distance. In winter, the river and lakes freeze solid, allowing for skiing, snowmobiling, even travel by vehicle in some cases.
Travel & Ski Resorts
The Pallas and Olos Ski Resorts are popular destinations for winter activities, as well as Sauna World and the Torasieppi Reindeer Farm. In summer, the river valley and the national park are favorites of fishermen and nature enthusiasts, who enjoy the cleanest air in the world. Cultural offerings include the Muonio Ethnographic Museum and the protected old buildings of Ylimuonio.
Olos polar center
Muonio is also home to the Olos Polar Center, located at Lapland Hotels Olos – an international-level conference and congress center. Beneath the Polar Kota, you’ll find a modern 600-seat auditorium, which is spacious enough to drive a car onto the stage. The facility also includes two breakout rooms, providing excellent settings for larger groups, whether for celebrations or meetings. The auditorium features top-class acoustics and also functions as a cinema.
